And go is what the Republicans will be doing, going away from the white house that is.
I can't wait to have a REAL president. I mean one that is an advocate for all Americans. One that has the ability to lead with dignity and honesty.
I have to wonder what it is that makes a Republican think that all the problems of the economy were caused by the Democrats. After all, Republicans have held the white house for 24 out of the last 32 years. The only time the economy was really in good shape during this time was when a Democrat was in the white house. I think the 24 years of republican economic policies have now been proven that they really don't work.
Trickle down economics. Yeah right. When was the last time a CEO decided to forgo his annual gazillion dollar bonus and trim his salary in order to pay for benefits for the employees. It never happens. Why? Greed! We live in a "more is better" society and therefore whoever is in a position to gain more does. Nothing trickles down.
Mark my words. In four years the Republicans are going to complain the Obama hasn't got the economy back on track and that a new Republican president is the answer. There is no way we can dig ourselves out of the hole George Dubya has put us in within a single presidential term. It is way easier to break something than to fix it. And right now it isn't just broken it's freakin smashed and trampled on. I think a dog even came along and peed on it. That would be the trickle down part.
Religion, especially Christianity is the biggest problem in American politics today.
Believing in god and all that it encompasses is the same as believing that WMD's were the real cause for the debacle in Iraq. There never has been and never will be any proof of either WMD's or God.
Faith is crap. It's just a cop-out in order to buy into something without really examining what is real and what is not. Faith is defined as: Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. This is the guise that Republicans and Christians use to guide their decisions.
Just read the letters sent in to the newspaper about the election. It is very rare to see a letter from a Democrat that even mentions God or Jesus. Almost every single letter written in support of Republicans is littered with G's and J's. It is absolutely mind boggling to me that people still use their religion as their guide when voting.
Why can't people leave religion out of politics? I wouldn't have any problem with religion if religious people didn't use G and J as their guide for truth. I mean honestly, G and J have become the go to answer for people when they can't prove their point. They just throw in some crap about God will guide us and Jesus died for us and a bunch of other conjecture. And to them it's the same as truth.
Abortion. Okay, I know this is a really hot topic so I won't go into pro choice or pro life. I just want to point out that the president does not decide the laws on abortion. The supreme court has that power, at it's discretion, to hear cases on this issue. So why would you vote for president based on this issue? I know you're first argument is that the president selects the supreme court justices. Fine, but the president can't tell them how to think or decide. And really, the justices themselves are supposed to use the Constitution and Bill of Rights, etc. to guide them and decipher, not their personal feelings.
Oh, and don't forget to vote. In order to clear-up any misconceptions, Democrats vote on the 4th, Republicans vote on the 5th. It's a new system they are using this year to ease the lines at the polling locations.

Um....just a fact...Obama is a Christian...so is Carter...if you read Carter's book he mentions G and J like a gazillion times. Try not to polarize so much. I don't know how much Nixon mentioned the big G or J. I think he was raised Quaker but being a warmonger obviously abandoned that particular faith, d'oh. I agree that people sometimes use God as a cop-out. My apologies to you and God for all those crazy nutjob people.
Your lovingly independent-voting, Christian and kind of Quaker sister,
Ann
Neither of these things is quite as clear-cut as you make it out to be. First off, I do believe Obama will make a better president than McCain could. But really, Democrats aren't going to magically make everything way better. You already acknowledge that it'll be impossible for Obama to solve the economic problems in one term. Other problems he can't solve in one term: the wholesale massacre of the whole planet's environment; the uncounted human lives (American and international) rent to pieces by military involvement in Iraq and a hundred other countries; the unbalancing of our very climate by a culture of consumption; a system wherein people go to school until they find a job, and then work every day - weekday if they're luckier - of their lives until they retire, and are then finally (with the last 2½ of their allotted 8 decades) allowed to enjoy their lives. Nor could McCain fix these, of course. The best a Democrat White House can do is make some of this a little better, but as Ronald Reagan said, "Government isn't the solution, government is the problem." Don't put all your faith in Democrats.
The other thing is that religion is a problem in government, but it's definitely not the biggest one. The biggest one, I guess, is that it enforces a way of life where the population insists on continually, unstoppably expanding through conquest of the natural world, which has gotten us to the point where a quarter of the mammals in the world are in danger of extinction. Religion sets in place misguided policies. A deep-seated sense of entitlement to the environment results in the steepest mass extinction in the history of the goddamn planet.
Sticks and stones may break my bones and naughty words will raise the hackles on the nape of my neck and wonder why you didn't use nicer words. G.Pa
Well, for one, over 90% of americans believe in God, so thats a whole lot of democrats and republicans both. I think you are annoyed by Bush and his christianity on his sleeve approach. Obama will likely use his faith to guide him too. You probably don't know this but one of the most deeply faithful presidents was president Ford. He was well respected and was very careful to not wear his born again faith on his sleeve. It was a personal thing. If you are looking for purely atheist leaders, you need to move to Europe.
Christianity like any other religion almost always ends up being nothing like its purpose. Christianity and the crusades were no different. To claim that it is responsible for misguided people does not explain Hitler, Stalin, or many others. To assume all there is to this world is what we can observe is to miss too much in my opinion.
Christianity also speaks loudly to consumerism, materialism, and the eventual wholesale end to this planet. I just drove down I-75 and in Tennessee, you can now see a huge strip mine where a mountain once was. We have not been good stewards of the planet to be sure.

I suggest you SELL your sign on E-Bay. Someone may pay big bucks. Dad
Well I must say I wonder where you get that 90% of Americans believe in God. You can't make a statement like that and not back it up. Give me some reliable data from several sources that all have come to this same conclusion. Good luck.
As for being annoyed with Bush. I am. I am also annoyed with people that believe things for certain that have no proof.
McGovern is a Methodist minister, Carter a devout Baptist, Kennedy a devout Catholic, need I go on?
Now maybe someone's "religion" might make them feel entitled to trash the world, but that part of their religion did NOT, did NOT come from Jesus. If someone has misused a "religion" and claimed in its name the right to kill or destroy anything, then that is wrong. You do not see where this kind of destruction ever advocated by Jesus. I know that you get those thoughts from Jensen but to claim that Jesus ever told anyone to destroy the earth or its resources and animals, or people, is the opposite of what Jesus taught. It's why George Fox (founder of Quakerism) had to stop listening to nutty people who tried to speak in the name of Christ, and just be still and be taught by the spirit of Jesus himself. It is only when a state/country (Rome in this case) said "OK, OK, so many of you are becoming Christians that now we're going to require it of everyone in Rome!" that the actual persona of Jesus was lost in that translation somewhere. YOU CANNOT KILL in the name of Jesus- Jesus did not even allow Peter to do it when the Romans were coming to arrest him.
Whoever lives by the sword shall die by the sword.
Don't let Jensen's misunderstanding due to nut jobs past and present confuse you!
Ann/Mom
Who the hell is Jensen? I speak for myself. So don’t accuse me of repeating the word of others. If I do, I site them.
If you want to say that religion is not the problem. Fine. But we both know that religion and politics are hopelessly intertwined in America. It's also a fact that Christians are constantly trying to spread their word as truth. And we both know there is no proof. We've argued that point to nowhere because you, nor has anyone else ever been able to provide me proof. The last time we got into this issue you gave up. Wanna try again?
As for the religion of presidents, I don’t care what they are or say they are, which is likely two different things. The bottom line is that if any presidential candidate ever said they were an atheist, it would spell the end of their campaign. So I personally hope that if a president is actually religious, he/she keeps it out of the office.
